Reach for the stars and if you miss, KEEP TRYING!!

Reach for the stars and if you miss, KEEP TRYING! What an awkward thing to say because it sounds discouraging, however it is just the complete opposite. You have heard this statement many times in your life, and of course parents tell their children this to push them forward. And let’s not forget every graduate gets this proclamation when they have reached their milestone. Yet, what we don’t add to that statement is… if you don’t make it this time, keep trying, never give up, set that goal, press on and keep pushing forward no matter the obstacles. This is the hard part of the journey, that no one wants to talk about.

As we near the end of the year and reflect back on the past, we make plans for a new beginning with the start of a new year. We begin to think about our goals, life changes and things we want to accomplish in the new year to better ourselves. Some people decide to make resolutions, but as you know how often do those resolutions make it past January 15th? What would be a better mind set, is make goals for yourself., no matter how small or large and keep striving to reach those goals no matter how long it takes. We all want to reach our goals, however the point is not necessarily in reaching the goal, but to ALWAYS KEEP TRYING!!

Having grown up with a dad who never let us say the word, CAN’T it was not part of our vocabulary, nor was it ever an option. Our choice of words was.. I will TRY!! I am sure you can hear the screams and crying as we speak, but this motto has taught me valuable lessons in life. If you know anything about me, you know I am a pretty determined person, I actually take some pride in my determination. Don’t get me wrong there are days when I do go swimming in my pool of tears, but eventually I decide to get out of the kiddle pool, and put on my swan float and pink googles and jump into the river and swim up stream. I have always set goals for myself, daily goals with my to-do list, yes, my friends do make fun of my list, short term goals, like seeing all of the waterfalls in my county, and long term goals, I will keep those to myself, because I have to keep some things secret. I have personal, spiritual, physical, business, home improvement goals, you name it, I have a goal for it, and yes there is a list somewhere needing to be checked off. The point is to make a goal and take the first step to accomplish it. There is some Chinese proverb that says you can’t eat an elephant in a day, this is true when reaching your goals. The most important part is keep pressing forward. It may take you years to accomplish your goals, and to others it may seem like you will never reach the end. You may get laughs and jeers, moreover you will hear the naysayers constantly in your ear. Yet, no matter the hurdles and negative comments, make the first step, then the next one will get easier, never stand still!! Once you reach those goals, you will realize you are stronger and braver than you ever thought you could be. No matter if anyone ever notices your accomplishments or gives you the high five, you have the sanctification of knowing deep down in your soul you are the over comer, and not only did you run the race you pressed on.
